Well that is another year coming to a close, so I thought I would post one last time.
This is a shot of the 'Mittens' in the early morning in the Navajo Nation's Monument Valley Park.
We had a brilliant guide by the name of Bernard, the little things he showed us along with the bigger rock formations was very interesting. The landscape is amazing and intriguing how some things have weathered away, while others still stand proud after all this time. This is one place I recommend you visit some time.
Luckily this year due to work taking me places, I have had a chance to see some outstanding things.
I just hope I can continue next year, experiencing new places, sights and cultures.
Hope 2013 is a good year for you all.
Thanks for dropping by.

Gear review - Lowepro flipside sport 15l aw
Well aren't I on a roll, 3 in one month !
I think it is time to do a bit of gear/kit review. For my little jaunt to the Deserts of the south west of the USA, I was wondering if any my current camera bags would be suitable. Yes they would but they would not be the best choice. So I had a look around for a bag that ticked all the right boxes, and I decided on the Lowepro Flipside Sport 15l AW. Details can be found here on the Lowepro website.
I settled on the 15 litre version over the 10 litre mainly for the extra room afforded to my kit, but also the headroom for the water bladder that is able to be used with this bag. This was basically my number one priority, due to the locations / conditions I would be in and travelling through, I would need to be able to carry a good bit of water with me. It says it can take a 1L hydration bladder, I was able to use a Platypus 2L. Could not get a full 2L in but it would have been around the 1.5L mark !
These bags are available in blue and orange, I took delivery of a blue one. One added advantage to photographers with this bag, is that it does not really shout camera bag !
The bag is very comfy to wear over long periods of time and has a good number of adjustment points, the back is meshed to allow better airflow to keep you cooler if the going gets tough. As with just about all of the modern Lowepro bags, it has a built in rain cover as well as a tripod support for a lightweight tripod. You also have fastenings for hiking poles or ice axes !
The inner compartment has the usual set of velcro compartment dividers that can be re-arranged in a multitude of ways to accomodate what kit you need to take. This whole compartment has it's own drawstring stormflap, and the whole thing can be removed so you can use the bag as a full blown day pack.
As the name Flipside notes it works like the other flipside bags in their range as when the lower strap is fastened, you can slip the bag of your shoulders and turn it around to the front of your body. This allows access to the main storage area of the bag where all you kit is stored, you dont have to take it of your back to access this or even put the bag on the ground. I found it so helpful when I needed to change lens. There is one slight flaw here is the zips on the back panel could do with going further down to allow the flap to open a bit further, it is one small thing and some thing that should not make you discount this bag.
If you have any questions on the bag or anything else please just drop me a line.
Thanks for dropping by !

The bag has taken some beatings since I got it and it has taken these very well. It will certainly get a lot more use over the next few years. Hope post has given you another possibility to look at when you are in the market for a new camera bag.

Thunder over the canyon
Thunder over the canyon, a photo by GP Images Photography on Flickr.
It was strange to watch this thunder storm, as I think this is possibly one of the best views I have had of a storm without actually being in it!It was taking place over the North rim of the Grand Canyon, when I was stood on the south rim about 10 miles away. The scale of the place is quite amazing, bit more than just a large ditch. For all I tried I was able to capture any of the lightning stikes taking place as well, but hey ho that's how things go at times.
I got to see sunrise and sunset over the Grand Canyon, they were nice and no doubt from other photos I have seen they can be pretty spectacular. But I think we can have some of the best sunrise and sunsets in the UK, where I now live in West Yorkshire and Northumberland where I was born. There are some outstanding areas to capture / watch and enjoy natures free show.
Take care all and thanks for dropping by.

Custom Car shoot
Had a shoot to do for a custom car owner, he has a 1941 Plymouth Gasser. I was taken to the shoot location in the gasser, that is one loud fast beast of a motor !!
It was a tad cool day, but every thing went just about to plan. The model had a few goose bumps but got on with it brilliantly.
Then the only way to finish off some thing like this was another blast in the car, off to a pub and had a huge mixed grill !! mmmmmm

Been a long time......
Well dam it, it has been over a year since my last post! I never thought it was that long ago, but time has passed much faster than I realised.
When I look back at what I have done or in some case's not done, I am surprised.
Been working out in the USA at points this year, so had bit of a wander when there !
Also, I have fullfilled a lifetimes ambition, to go and see the Northern Lights. It is something that I will remember for the rest of my life, it is very hard to explain what it's like.
I was out there for a photographic workshop, run by David Clapp and Antony Spencer.
A couple of people that were out there with us, were doing time-lapse photography. I have seen various time-lapse movies and thought I would like to try that. So when I saw the results of what these fellow photographers had been doing, I thought I would have a go.
So I have included a short time-lapse I shot and created while I was in Norway for this workshop.
Now I have to say that Norway is such an amazing place, driving around in the mountains and you would come around a corner and there would be this perfectly still lake reflecting the mountains surrounding us. The Lofoten Islands are a photographers dream location!
So here is the time-lapse
Also a photo of a Coronal Burst that took place directly above me at one point. Again it is hard to describe it and how quickly they move.
Well, if I get myself into gear. I will update this a bit more with the stuff I have been up to this year.
Cheerz and thanks for dropping by.
